Drills with Saenchai, Sinbi Pictures, Learning Thai & SUN!

As much as I’m sure you don’t want to hear it, Thailand is just getting better and better – it’d be good if I was staying out here for longer! Made both the morning and afternoon sessions today, even though I feel kind of worn out and sluggish, (afternoon padwork was almost embarrassing) but I’m putting it down to the fact that it was totally scorching today! The rain took a break and the island was basking in glorious sunshine as the morning session rolled around at 730am. It was crazy busy, I guess a whole host of people arrived over the weekend, literally about 25-30 people training. Quite a few guys I’d met who live at Sinbi didn’t show, which means that it’s only going to get busier… Afternoon session was noticeably less busy, maybe people decided the morning was enough! (Pussies).

Saenchai joined in a bit today after his own training session, helping us out with drills including working kick and fake kick techniques: This means I’ve officially kicked Saenchai lol! (He kicked me back though). I need to start trying to write some of this stuff down I think, so many different options that I’d never tried, considered or known about before. The basic premise was throwing a low rear roundhouse, and then throwing it again but turning the hip over earlier, and loosening the knee, I think to get what is known as a Brazilian kick… He almost took my head off with his.

Met some cool Aussies who haven’t minded me tagging along with them to eat and stuff, so went and jammed with them at dinner tonight: I got in to write the blog post, and lo and behold there was a knock on my door and it was one of the massage girls dropping in with some beer for me! Can’t argue with that! Then we proceeded to do some Thai learning, and now I can say over 5 words in Thai! Give me a year out here I’ll be sorted. The irony is not lost on me that the words she thought to teach me included ‘pillow’ (maom), ‘duvet’ (pu-han), ‘faster’ (luiew luiew), ‘slower’ (shar shar) and ‘how are you’ (bensulat mai). Obviously I’m writing them how I was told to say them, so don’t quote me on any of that!

I also got a bit of footage of Saenchai clinching in the afternoon session with Oron, or rather, throwing Oron. I can’t seem to rotate the video which is a bit of a bitch, so if anyone can help with that please drop me a comment! Ok it’s uploading and this connection sucks, so I’m going to bed. Will post some more images and footage tomorrow!
