I found this rather interesting short article on Sports Nutrition by Nancy Clark, posted to Princeton.edu, who deals primarily with cyclists, runners and other more endurance based athletes, but she considers briefly what to consume pre and post workout, how sugar can affect you pre workout, and also recovery drinks and post workout supplement shakes.
